MEDICAL INFORMATICS:

  • Assisting members on a citywide information network for electronic medical records, billing, coding & online eligibility & other E-Commerce issues
  • Assisting members with connectivity issues and adoption of hospital informatics
  • Medicor, a point-of-care information portal for members (www.spcmsmedicor.org)  

PROJECT ACCESS:

  • Working to improve our community health status
  • Reflecting physician commitment to providing access to health care for Spokane County's uninsured
  • Offering greater malpractice insurance protection for Project Access providers
  • Evenly distributing burden of care for uninsured to participating physicians
  • Demonstrating public healthcare leadership -Collecting data on all charity care provided by physicians (for the first time)!
  • Serving over 3000 patients, with $10 million in care provided by 800 physicians (over 4 years)

BUSINESS COMMUNITY LIAISON:

  • Continuing to work on new initiatives with Greater Spokane, Inc. (GSI) & business communities to initiate improved advocacy on physician issues to state & national legislature
  • Participating in yearly GSI congressional advocacy trips to Washington, DC & Olympia

STRENGTHEN SCMS:

  • Continuing efforts to reach out to non-members and retain current members
  • Building non-dues revenue -Creating new member resources -Continuing to market Circle of Friends affinity program

 LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS:

  • Achieved 20 new medical students training in Spokane
  • Continuing support for universal access to health care, including appropriate  funding for the Basic Health Plan
  • Continuing efforts for meaningful statewide and national liability reform
  • Coordinating legislative efforts with WSMA
  • Implement and support fundraising for legislative activities/candidates
  • Continuing our work to oppose legislation that increases the scope of practice for other health care professional groups
  • Working on issues surrounding the regulation of physician networks & physician 
  • Meeting several times a year with state & local legislators
  • Initiating legislative alerts and calls to action on critical issues
  • Continuing efforts to promote legislative advocacy on the part of physicians

 PUBLIC/MEDIA RELATIONS:

  • Conducting regular press interviews on scientific, public health, and several  statewide initiatives
  • Proactively representing MDs & their activities in our community
  • Providing physicians for all Spokane County high school football teams/Hoopfest

 PUBLIC HEALTH:

  • Continuing work on community-wide practice guidelines
  • Supporting county-wide fluoridation efforts
  • Supporting Spokane Regional Health District efforts in public health
  • Supporting our county E-911, 211 and EMS Systems
  • Advocating for immunization priority during shortages

MEDICAL ECONOMICS/PRACTICE VIABILITY:

  • Working with state officials (OIC & AG) on insurance matters
  • Conducting educational programs regarding contracting with health plans
  • Continuing to develop rules for adoption by the OIC regarding contract language and other physician-related issues, including insurance plans
  • Educating members on practice viability issues and advocating physician-directed solutions, use of mid-levels and physician recruitment techniques
  • Forming small group advisory committee to commercial payors

 COLLEGIALITY:

  • Board of Trustees Liaison for member issues
  • Vice President attends Leadership Spokane
  • Strengthening ties with GSI & business community through involvement in the Health Industry Development Group
  • Coordinating yearly Physician/Citizen of the Year Award

FOUNDATION PROJECTS / OTHER:

  • Raised $72,000 for Tsunami relief efforts

  • Community-wide Laterality and Pause Policy received WSMA's 2006 William O.  Robertson Award
  • Continuing to optimize medical care in the community
