Guidelines for Submission
Welcome to the online version of the Spokane County Medical Society's newsletter "The Message". Your source on local issues affecting your medical profession, your patients and your Medical Society. The editorial board of "The Message" has established the following guidelines for submission of articles:
When possible, articles must be submitted in an electronic format, either by computer disk or by email to Michelle Caird, Executive Assistant to CEO, 509-325-5010, ext. 25
- Brief, concise articles are preferred.
- Feature articles should be 750 words.
- If a photo is included, please provide a digital image with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The preferred formats are TIF or EPS.
- The deadline for articles is the tenth of each month prior to the month of publication; e.g., the deadline for the September issue is August 10.
- Authors may suggest a title for their articles. Titles should be brief. Incude a title page with all authors' names and their academic ranks and affiliations.

Free, Limited Advertising Space for Members
Spokane County Medical Society offers its members free, limited space for classified ads in "The Message" to advertise items for sale. Also available is limited advertising space in the section “Physician Opportunities”. To place a notice please email or call Michelle Caird, Executive Assistant to CEO, 509-325-5010, ext. 25, for more information.
Editorial Policies
Editorial Review: All articles, whether solicited or unsolicited, are subject to editorial review. The Spokane County Medical Society editorial board reserves the right to edit all contributions for clarity and length, as well as the right not to publish submitted articles and advertisements, for any reason. All material will be reviewed by the editor, the editorial staff and/or the editorial board as needed. Articles will be edited to ensure clarity, good grammar and appropriate language, and to conform to style, format and space restrictions.
Authorship: Accepted material becomes the copyrighted property of "The Message" and may not be republished or reprinted, in part or in whole, by the author or any other party without permission. Requests for reprints by another publication may be authorized at the discretion of the editor.

| June, 2011, Health Information Technology is in the Air We Breathe. A review of Medicor, the SCMS electronic library, other community data sharing involving physician offices/hospitals, the statewide Health Information Exchange, progress of Meaningful Use, and other patient centered information systems. |
| May, 2011, Bringing Service to Life. Invite physicians and physician assistants to contribute articles about LOCAL activities where they lead a project, helped to energize a local event, created awareness for a healthy community or did something unique for their neighborhood. |
| April, 2011, Physician Assistants Our Versatile, Vital Colleagues. Articles that take a look at the relationships of physician assistants with physicians, how it has evolved over time, and what the models in Spokane look like. |
| March, 2011, SCMS Priorities 2011. Invite physicians and physician assistants to contribute articles related to the Priority topics chosen through the 2010 Member Survey and resulting prioritization by the SCMS Board of Trustees. |
| February, 2011, “Raising the Bar” for Pediatric Care in the Inland Northwest. Invite articles from members looking at the evolution of Pediatrics in the Spokane community, the established and the new, programs that have been threatened and where they stand today, new practices and technology, and what this all means for Pediatricians in the Spokane region from their perspective. |
| January 2011, Priority and Focus for 2011. Invite representatives from hospitals, hospital systems, and CMOs, to discuss their challenges, what is new in their organizations, what do they expect on the horizon as PPACA takes effect, and what will be their highest priority in terms of reimbursement, quality, and regulatory issues. |
| December 2010, Tracking and Reporting. Let’s take a “look back” and a “wrap up” of the year. We have tracked the progress of the year’s Priorities and Focus Goals, major accomplishments, and even looked at what the future might look like next year, and this is what we found out. |
| November 2010, The SCMS "Value Proposition". The SCMS takes a look at all the programs and activities that make membership in the Society valuable, helping physicians to be more efficient and effective in their daily lives, and allowing for the opportunity to create goodwill and unity among physicians and physicians assistants in the region. |

| August 2010, The Political Process. Take a look in election years at interviews (questions and answers) by the SCMS Board with candidates running for open positions. The interviews will occur in July. Focus articles on health related laws and their impact on the profession. |
| July 2010, Health Related Schools. Columns from schools in the area, e. g. Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy at EWU, MEDEX, Veterinary at WSU, Health Administration at EWU, WSU. |

Possibly a summary of the WA State Legislative Session if appropriate, Federal Health reform, and other political advocacy issues hot off the press. Let’s also look at the relationships of physician assistants with physicians, how it has evolved over time, and what the models in Spokane look like. |
| March 2010, Medical Education. A peek into the future of Medical Education in Spokane, the medical student and resident experience from their perspective, faculty development, and Riverpoint campus development to support a four year medical school. |
