SCMS Leadership engages the community through convening of or participation on boards, committees, programs and task forces, including:

The primary goal of the SCMS is to serve and represent its members. To accomplish this goal, it is imperative that we have your support, and we are here to support you in your vitally important role in medicine.

• Advocacy opportunities ensuring responsible public health policy and a united voice on the issues that matter to you, such as supporting local fluoridation efforts, and providing local input into the Washington State Medical Association’s (WSMA) statewide efforts to enhance the practice of medicine and ensure appropriate reimbursement.
• SCMS support and assistance in authoring and submitting proposed resolutions to the WSMA House of Delegates, raising awareness of issues of importance to the practice of medicine in the state Washington.

• Support and encourage the future of medicine with area residents, and medical and physician assistant students as seen through our annual SCMS Art & Medical Humanities Contest for Spokane medical and physician assistant students and residents, and the SCMS Foundation’s annual Bill Sherman, MD, Memorial Scholarship covering expenses to attend the annual WSMA Leadership Development Conference in Lake Chelan.
• Succeed in your personal development and add your voice by becoming involved on our Medical Education Committee supporting local UGE and GME, annual Medicine CME Planning Committee, Board of Trustees, Foundation Board, or serve as a WSMA Alternate Delegate at the annual WSMA HOD meeting.
